List of All Spider-Man Movies in Order

You want to watch all Spider-Man movies, but you are not sure about the order or if they are connected? Here is a quick explanation.

There are seven Spider-Man movies in total and they are divided into three groups. The first one is the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy (2002-2007) starring Tobey Maguire. In the second group are two Marc Webb Amazing Spider-Man films (2012-2014) starring Andrew Garfield. This is the reboot of the Spider-Man series and it is completely independent from the previous movies.

Finally, the last two are Jon Watts films Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home starring Tom Holland, and these two are parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was the second reboot in the Spider-Man movie series and again, it is completely independent from the others.

Sony Pictures Entertainment owns the rights to Spider-Man, but with the last two, they have a deal to share the Spider-Man film rights. This is why the last two are part of Infinity Saga.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man has appeared in three more movies (five in total): Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

These seven movies grossed $6 billion at the global box office. Spider-Man: Far from Home is the first Spider-Man film to gross over $1 billion worldwide. It is also Sony’s highest-grossing film ever.

Here is the list of all Spider-Man movies in order of release:

1. Spider-Man (2002)

Peter Parker is a nerdy high school student who gets bullied all the time. He also likes the girl next door Mary Jane but is too afraid to tell her. When Peter is bitten by a genetically engineered spider during a field trip, everything changes. Suddenly, his vision is better, his physique is improved and he can shoot a web from his wrist.

After he loses his uncle who told him that “with great power comes great responsibility”, Parker decides to use his new gifts to fight evil. Meanwhile, millionaire Norman Osborn tests an unstable strength enhancer on himself and becomes the evil Green Goblin. Naturally, the showdown between the two is inevitable, but Green Goblin has one advantage, he knows Spider-Man’s weakness.

2. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Main Villain: Dr. Otto Octavius

Two years have passed since Peter Parker became Spider-Man and things aren’t very good. He can’t hold a regular job and relations with closest people become estranged. All of this starts to affect his powers. Peter’s friend Harry, who now runs his father’s company Oscorp, is sponsoring a fusion project by nuclear scientist Otto Octavius. After a failed fusion experiment Dr. Octavius will become a supervillain with mechanical hands.

When Peter decides to quit being Spider-Man, Harry hires Octavius to bring Spider-Man to him in exchange for isotope tritium, so he can avenge his father’s death. When Harry finds out that his best friend Peter is Spider-Man, he will decide to help him locate Octavius who holds Mary Jane as a hostage. Spider-Man must stop Octavius and Mary Jane will finally learn Peter’s secret.

3. Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Main Villain: Venom & Sandman

In the third and final part of the trilogy, Spider-Man will face multiple enemies, including a dark version of himself. When a meteorite hits Central Park, an extraterrestrial symbiote will assimilate Spider-Man’s suit and bring his dark side up. His friend Harry will become New Goblin and the man who actually killed Peter’s uncle Ben will turn into Sandman. On top of that, the rival photographer from Peter’s work will become Venom and he will team up with Sandman against Spider-Man. Luckily for Spider-Man, his friend Harry will eventually switch sides and even the odds.

4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Main Villain: The Lizard

In this rebooted version of the Spider-Man franchise, Peter Parker finds his father’s documents and learns that he worked with Dr. Connors at Oscorp. When he sneaks into Oscorp, Peter is bitten by a genetically modified spider. Soon he will realize that he has developed special abilities.

Meanwhile, Dr. Connors, who is working on a regeneration serum based on lizard DNA, will use the serum on himself and that will turn him into a monster known as the Lizard. Now he wants to make everyone the same by releasing a chemical cloud from the Oscorp building. In order to protect the city, Spider-Man must confront and defeat the Lizard.

5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx
Main Villain: Electro & Green Goblin

When Oscorp engineer Max Dillon accidentally shocks himself and falls into a tank with electrical eels, he will mutate into a living electrical generator. Meanwhile, Peter’s friend Harry is ill and he believes a sample of Spider-Man’s blood can heal him. When he asks Peter to help him find Spider-Man, Peter refuses because he is unsure of what effect the transfusion would have.

Harry will make a deal with Dillon, now known as Electro, to get him back into Oscorp which Harry lost control of. Inside he will find a special suit and venom from destroyed spiders. Injected venom will speed up the illness and transform him into Green Goblin, but the suit is capable of healing him.

Spider-Man needs to face Electro who can cause a blackout in the city, and Green Goblin who wants revenge for being refused transfusion.

6. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Starring: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr.
Superhero Appearance: Iron Man
The Main Villain: Vulture / Adrian Toomes (forced out of business by Stark; he created the suit out of Chitauri technology after the battle of New York.)

After helping Stark with an internal dispute (in Captain America: Civil War), Peter Parker returns to his high school life. What he actually wants to do is to focus on fighting crime. He starts to run into criminals with advanced weapons. After he ends up in a lake, Stark will save him because he has a tracker in Spider-Man’s suit.

Against his mentor’s commands, Peter will continue to investigate mysterious arms-trafficker, who will turn out to be the father of the girl he likes. He also has his own suit.

7. Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)

When Elementals starts to attack all over the world, Peter Parker will find himself recruited by Nick Fury to help.
